The Let Go

Marriah Boyd

The hardest thing is letting go.

Every day

Of every hour

Of every minute

I dig a trench between my emotions and my let go.

The tears drip down my face,

Down the tip of my nose,

Down the palm of my hand, my fingers, my heart.

Yet still,

I dig a trench between my emotions and my let go.

Young man,

Don’t you see what you’ve done to me?

Every day

Of every hour

Of every minute

I dig a trench between my emotions and my let go,

Scared to drown in the waves of my sorrow, my hurt, my pain.

Young man,

Do you see what you’ve done to me?

And to think that I let you have this power over me?

So here I go.

Digging a trench between my emotions and my let go.

Because every moment that I don’t

My emotions will keep me, keep me, keep me,

From finally letting you go.
