Just a Call | Hannah Bagley

I find it funny that as a woman, I didn’t know when International Women’s Day was until it happened. My roommate’s birthday was on the 7th of this month, and as soon as the clock struck midnight she said, “Well, it’s not my birthday anymore, but it is International Women’s Day!”

I’d love to say that I did something to celebrate, but I really didn’t. I called my mom, and we talked for a little bit, but it wasn’t about anything serious. I will say that my mom has always inspired me to be the best person that I can be. She is extremely giving, kind, and accepting, and she is always working hard no matter how she is feeling. She makes me want to be a better person, and while we didn’t talk about anything that had to do with International Women’s Day yesterday, just talking to her was enough to remind me of just how much she inspires me every day.

I feel like I don’t think about these things sometimes, but when I do I realize how much my mom has impacted my life in the best ways possible. She is one of many women who inspire me to be the best I can be, but she is also the most important one. I am so grateful that we spoke on International Women’s Day, and I am so happy that I have her in my life to encourage me to do to the best I can, especially in school.

  1. You can really tell how much you look up to and appreciate your mom. The love you have for her really came through in this piece, and I think it is so sweet!

  2. I love how you made this connection between your mom and International Women’s Day. Not only did you effectively convey the love and respect you hold for your mom, but you told a beautiful story of women empowerment and strength.
