When a book is very popular, one of the main thoughts that goes through my head is, “Is this book really worth the hype?” I always feel hesitant because my expectations are so high that I don’t want to be disappointed.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas was one of those books that I was pleasantly surprised by. I had heard about it for so long, and just wasn’t sure if it was worth it. I picked it up for the first time last semester without realizing that I had opened a world to a multiverse made up of more than 15 books that have changed my life. The multiverse is made up of three different series written by Sarah J. Maas. Only one of these, Throne of Glass, is finished. The other two, A Court of Thorns and Roses and Crescent City, are still ongoing. A Court of Thorns and Roses is for the fantasy and romance lover. We follow 19 year-old Feyre’s journey as she leaves the human world and gets taken into Prythian, which is the world of the Fae. Within this world there are 7 courts which act as territories.
The first book initially seems like a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but you quickly discover that it is much more than that. I’ve never found it so easy to feel so connected to characters from the start as I did when reading this series.
This series addresses many themes that the main characters encounter at one point or another, such as healing from trauma, overcoming setbacks, and personal growth. I recommend this series to anyone who is looking to open up a beautiful world that will leave you wishing you were a part of it.
