the woods
are green
and brown
a bone-chilling feeling sets in
is it the temperature
or fear
they call it a park
double rock park
this is no park
you feel stranded
in the woods
in an unknown state
suddenly
you hear it
trickle, trickle, trickle
splash, splash
roar
the stream speeding past
in front of you is
a rock
giant
and smooth
covered in moss
stream flowing about
tickling the moss
fluttering the fins of the fish
slowly
very slowly
wearing away the rocks
changing the streamflow
ever so slowly
those tall trees
touch the sky
but at the base
are covered in initials
engraved into the bark
75 years
and
the beauty
the calm
the serenity
is everlasting
until
skip, skip, skip, skip, plunk
the rock gently skips along the surface
“I GOT 4 SKIPS!”
screaming
yelling
but still peace prevails
scuffles among the leaves
is it a snake
or a squirrel
footsteps close behind you
am i in danger
who cares
you’re at peace
