The Greenspring Review Halloween Party was so fun!! I came early, so I got to help set up the new decorations that had been brought to decorate the walls of the room in upstairs Rockland! We had centerpieces and garland; Josie, Editor-in-Chief, played a spooky playlist. When everyone filtered in, we got candy. Obviously, I got M&Ms (the best candy). We chatted for a while about English classes and professors, and it was nice to hear how everyone was doing. I’m a new member this year, and, this being the first in-person event I’ve attended, it was a really nice way to get to know everyone.

At 7:30pm, we started writing our open-mic prompt. There were four to choose from, ranging from empty basements to clowns to giant snakes! We got fifteen minutes to write, which might sound long, but it felt so short even considering that we paused the timer to talk for a minute! Some of us only wrote a half page, but others flipped onto the back (me being one of them). When the timer went off, I had to write three more sentences, so I rushed even though Jasmine, one of the Assistant Prose Editors, was giving everyone without pens down evil eyes! Josie presented first, telling her story on how a girlfriend got turned into a snake after eating a piece of chocolate. Her story was my favorite out of all of them; right when you think the boyfriend is going to help the girlfriend turn back into a human, she eats him!! Then, she says, “Oh my God, babe!! I’m so sorry!” It was by far the funniest. We all went in a circle to present, which took about a half hour. All of the stories had rushed plot twist endings which made them even funnier! Josie had more prompts prepared, but after all the effort we put into the first round, we were gassed out! We called it a night, but I can’t wait for the next GSR party!
