Up and Coming Book Club with GSR | Marisa Sloan

We’re reading A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Over the past few weeks, the Greenspring Review has been forming their new book club, something that I have been very excited to take part in. For the first meeting, we all discussed the types of books we like to read and what specific books we may be interested in reading for the club. Even though we all have diverse tastes, it will be interesting to see how our genre preferences may merge and develop through the club as we begin reading different types of books. After listing some possible book ideas, Leah Bayley-Hay, one of the organizers of the book club, compiled them together so we could vote on one. She made a PowerPoint that allowed us to see the different options for the upcoming month and learn what each of them is about. Then, we voted for the book on our GroupMe. The votes were split between three of the books, so, at the following meeting, we voted on the narrowed-down options. We ultimately decided to read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. We discussed ways to buy discounted books, so we do not have to break the bank for the club. In addition, we planned when we would meet next, so we could read the book ahead of time. Overall, it was exciting to choose a book and begin reading it. I am ecstatic to be a part of the group from the beginning of its establishment, and I cannot wait to see how it grows over time.
